Columbia County Mental Health Center provides a variety of mental health services to County residents:
- Clinic Services: For all ages; includes: evaluation, recommended course of therapy which may include individual, group, or family therapy, play therapy, and medication therapy for long or short term periods. Therapy is provided by psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurses, social workers, or rehabilitative counselors, depending on the needs of the patient.
- CC Mental Health Center operates a 24 hr. Crisis Line: 518-828-9446
- Intensive Case Management/ Long Term Care for Children and Adults: These are separate programs for adults and children who are enrolled. The programs target the most severely emotionally disturbed children and hard to reach adults, often living alone in isolated rural settings. Crisis intervention, outreach services, family and individual support services; food, shelter, clothing, transportation as well as intensive counseling and psychiatric services are integral to this program. Long term clinical and case management services are provided to non-Intensive Case Management clients as indicated and when possible.
- The School and Community Services Project: Provides mental health, alcohol and substance abuse treatment services, in collaboration with other county agencies, to students in each Columbia County school district. Students receive counseling individually or in groups; treatment is provided to parents and families as needed.
- Community Consultation: Consultation and Educational Services are provided to the community through: county agencies, schools, the jail, the courts, non profit agencies and others. Specialized consultation to schools and others are often related to specific needs or unusual circumstances.
- Costs: Most insurance plans, Managed Care and Medicaid are accepted. A sliding scale fee based on ability to pay is applicable for those who do not have insurance. Clients are responsible for the co-pay specified in their insurance contract.

The Association acts as a legislative advocate for people with mental illness and with regard to general Mental Health issues. The Association provides and promotes Educational Seminars and a newsletter on and about Mental Health issues.
The Association administers a variety of programs for certain populations at different locations in the twin counties.
Children and Family Services
Hours: Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm
Services are provided day and evening for youth with emotional, behavioral and/or social problems; youth “at risk” of being placed out of-the-home in a residential or psychiatric facility.
These services are:
- Case Management Services
(up to several visits/week as necessary
- Respite to families with youth with emotional disabilities
(1-2 times/wk per family)
- Parent support groups (monthly)
- Volunteer-Youth match “Special Friend” (weekly)
- Family Advocacy
- Volunteer-Adult match “Compeer Program” (weekly)
- Student Employment Training Program (after school)
Residential Services
Provides and administers housing services for the seriously
mental ill. To be eligible, individuals must meet the criteria
of Serious Mental Illness as determined by the NY State
Office of Mental Health and must be 18 years or older.
Residential programs are:
- Supervised Community Residences, Hudson, Clermont,
Catskill (24 hr. supervised living facility)
- Licensed Apartment Program (numerous visits per week
by case manager, depending on needs of resident)
- Supported Housing (Case Manager visits weekly or
monthly, depending on needs of resident)
Costs for the first 2 programs are determined by SSI
(Supplemental Security Income) and Medicaid. Rental
Stipend for supported housing is determined by HUD
regulations.
Rehabilitation Services
Hours: Mon. - Fri.: 9 am - 5 p.m.
Provides services to individuals 18 yrs. or over who are
diagnosed with a Major Mental Illness.
The services are:
- Community Alternatives Intensive Psychiatric
Rehabilitation (day program)
- Supported Employment
- Supported Education
- Self Help groups
Costs: Intensive Psychiatric Rehabilitation costs vary, determined by Medicaid, private insurance or sliding scale.
Other services are free to recipient.
Rip Van Winkle Center
The Rip Van Winkle Center provides continuing day treatment up to five days a week for individuals 18 years or older who are diagnosed with a Major Mental Illness.
Costs: Varies as determined by Medicaid and private insurance. A sliding fee scale is available for those without insurance or ineligible for Medicaid.
