Survivors of Crime & Abuse: Being the victim of a crime can be a very traumatic and frightening experience. The Reach Center's Crime Victims Assistance Program offers a wide range of free services to crime victims and their families in order to reduce the psychological, physical, and financial hardship they suffer. The Reach Center provides counseling and practical help to all victims and witnesses of crime and their families. All services are free and confidential.

Volunteer Training for Crisis Intervention: The REACH Center seeks people interested in developing crisis intervention and counseling skills to work as hotline volunteers. The volunteers provide an important service to the community. This training is offered several times per year.

Vassar Brothers Hospital hosts a support program for parents and caretakers of children with Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD).
The group will meet the first and third Wednesday of each month. Parents and caretakers are welcome to share their concerns and experiences. Psychologists, social workers, nurses, doctors, and others who are experienced in managing this condition will be invited to facilitate discussion.
This is one of the many events planned by Vassar Brothers' support group for young people with chronic illnesses, such as asthma, diabetes and sickle cell disease.

Various Other Alzheimer Support Help
Early Stage Alzheimer's Disease Support Groups:
For those diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and their caregivers. The meeting is led by support group leaders who may be a family member and/or health care professional. The meeting may focus on emotional support and sharing experiences, or it may focus on education, with experts speaking on topics such as legal issues, nutrition, care giving techniques and community resources. Currently the Alzheimer's Association is offering a morning and an evening Early Stage Support Group.
Family Education Workshops: This basic educational program offers knowledge, support, and practical tips for understanding and caring for the Alzheimer's individual. Each workshop will include: meeting day-to-day challenges, managing difficult behaviors, communication, safety in the home, and caring for yourself as a caregiver.

Bereavement Support
Bereavement Support - Ongoing: The Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene County offers a monthly bereavement support group called "Living With Loss." It meets the 4th Tuesday of every month from 2:00-3:30pm at the Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene County, 47 Liberty St., Catskill, NY. Directly across from St. Patrick's Church.) There is no charge for this support group.
For more information contact Joseph Zanchelli, MSW, Bereavement Counselor at (518) 943-5402 to register. This group is free and open to the community. No prior involvement with Family Hospice is required. Please call ahead to ensure group is meeting.

Wave Riders - Wave Riders Support Groups are for children who have experienced the death of someone significant in their lives, including a parent, grandparent, sibling or friend. These programs provide a safe environment semi-annually where children can share their grief experience and seek healing and growth through art, music, games and discussions. A parent educationals support group is offered concurrently. There is no charge for this support group.

Valatie - For adults with various types of cancer- 2nd Monday of every month 7:00PM at Barnwell Nursing Home, Conference Room. This is an informal, peer-supported group with cancer survivors that offers strategies for coping with illness through sharing of personal experiences. Call Irene at: 758-9285.
Valatie 2 - “Look Good-Feel Better” offers free consultations that show female cancer patients beauty techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation treatments. 2nd Monday of every month AS NEEDED at St. John’s Baptist Church. Participants receive beauty kits valued at $200.
