Emergency Rescue Squads and Ambulance Services are reached by dialing 911.

The Rescue Squad from the area nearest you will be dispatched from the 911 call. Rescue Squads in Columbia County are: Chatham Rescue Squad, Community Rescue Squad (Copake), Greenport Rescue Squad, Philmont Rescue Squad, Southern Columbia County Rescue Squad (Livingston, Germantown), Valatie Rescue Squad, and Lebanon Valley Rescue Squad.

The Healthcare Consortium offers a medical transportation program that will coordinate and/or provide transportation services for medical and behavioral health appointments for low and moderate income individuals. C.A.R.T.S. operates daily, Monday through Friday, from 8am to 4pm. Two days notice of an appointment is appreciated. There are no fees attached to this service. Donations are accepted. If you need transportation, call (518) 828-8820 from 8am - 2pm Monday through Friday.

RSVP sponsors the “R.I.D.E.” (Retired Individuals Driving Elderly) program which matches people ages 55 and over in need of transportation for medical appointments or treatment with volunteer drivers. Volunteers are reimbursed for mileage and receive insurance coverage. Scheduling should be requested 48 hours in advance of the needed transportation. There are no fees attached to this service. Donations are accepted. Call: 518-822-8222 Monday - Friday 9:30am. - 5pm to schedule transportation.

Columbia County Public Transportation

Columbia County contracts with Zanchelli Bus Service to operate a public transportation system with routes throughout much of the county. The buses also transport residents to the City of Albany. Individuals age 60 and over pay half fare within Columbia County. The Office for the Aging subsidizes these fares. Passengers can flag the bus at any stop along the bus route. On many routes, a 3/4 mile route deviation is possible with advance notification.
