Prescription Assistance Fund
Prescription medications can be costly, especially for those who have little or no insurance. The Healthcare Consortium’s Prescription Assistance Fund was created to help people who are having trouble paying for them.
Our staff can help residents of Columbia and Greene Counties by…
- providing direct financial assistance in the short term so you can quickly get the medications you need
- helping you apply to the various Prescription Assistance Programs (see description below) offered by drug companies
- figuring out whether you are eligible for other programs and services, counsel you about your options, and refer you to other agencies when appropriate.

What are Prescription Assistance Programs, or PAPs?
Nearly every drug company has a Prescription Assistance Program, or PAP, that allows individuals to receive prescription drugs at reduced cost, and very often, at no cost, for those who qualify. Typically, a patient has to be uninsured or under- insured and have an income level close to or below the Federal Poverty Threshold to qualify. For those who qualify, these programs provide prescription drugs at low or no cost, often for many months.
There are over 400 drug companies that participate, but they often have different eligibility criteria and application requirements. Since the application process is often complicated, we can help you complete the correct application, gather supporting documentation, and submit it on your application.
If you would like to research and apply for a PAP directly, we recommend that you do so at www.needymeds.org.
